Even minor breezes can impact the shuttlecock's course, hence competitive badminton is normally played indoors. On the other hand, recreational badminton is a popular outdoor summertime sport. The rectangular court is 44 feet (13.4 meters) long and 17 feet (5.2 meters) broad for singles and 20 feet (6.1 meters) wide for doubles.

The scoring system in badminton is similar to that of volleyball, with the serving side being the one that won the preceding rally. Badminton is played in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, much like tennis.
